I don’t know what the problem is, but LHP Nik Turley is currently on the 7-day DL. He finished last year on the shelf because he broke his hand reaching for a comebacker, but I doubt it’s related to that. Maybe it’s just a blister or something, he hasn’t pitched poorly or anything.
Update: Via Josh Norris, it’s exactly that. Turley is on the DL with a blister. Nice guess on my part.
Meanwhile, RHP Armando Galarraga is currently working out with the Yankees in Tampa and they may sign him soon. I think this is an indication that Ramon Ortiz or Nelson Figueroa is getting fed up with the Triple-A travel situation more than anything. We might see these Quad-A veteran guys shuffle in and out all season.
And finally, Ronnie Mustelier and Jose Ramirez were named the Double-A Eastern League Offensive Player of the Week and the High-A Florida State League Pitcher of the Week, respectively.
High-A Tampa (10-5 loss to Bradenton)
CF Eduardo Sosa & LF Ramon Flores: both 1-5, 1 K — Sosa tripled and drove in a run … Flores scored a run
C J.R. Murphy, RF Neil Medchill, 1B Kyle Roller & 2B Kelvin Castro: all 1-4, 1 K — Murphy drew a walk, drove in a run, and allowed a passed ball … Medchill tripled and plated a run

DH Kyle Higashioka: 1-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K
SS Garrison Lassiter: 2-4, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 K, 1 SB, 1 E (missed catch, fielding) — first game on shortstop in five years, and it showed
RHP Sean Black: 2.2 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 2/3 GB/FB — has allowed 196 runs in 297.1 IP since turning pro (5.93 runs per nine innings)
RHP Dawerd Cruz: 2.1 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 5/1 GB/FB
LHP Alex Smith: 3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 WP, 6/2 GB/FB — indy ball guy they signed this winter
LHP Matt Bashore: 1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 2/0 GB/FB– I guess they called up an entirely new bullpen following yesterday’s 18 inning affair
Low-A Charleston (5-4 win over Delmarva, walk-off style) they faced RHP Dylan Bundy, the fourth overall pick in last year’s draft and who I believe is the best pitching prospect in baseball
CF Mason Williams: 1-3, 2 R, 2 BB, 2 K, 1 SB, 1 CS– he reached base on a wild pitch after one of the strikeouts, then scored all the way from first on an error by the catcher when he was making a routine throw back to the pitcher … hooray Low-A!
SS Cito Culver: 0-4, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 E (throwing) — back with the team after spending a few days away following a death in the family
C Gary Sanchez: 3-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 K — doubled off Bundy, a 90 mph changeup up in the zone … left the game after attempting to steal second in the seventh
C Francisco Arcia: 0-0, 1 RBI, 1 E (pickoff) — replaced Sanchez and wound up with a walk-off sac fly
RF Tyler Austin & 3B Dante Bichette Jr.: both 0-4 — Austin whiffed once, Bichette thrice
DH Ben Gamel: 1-4, 2 K
2B Angelo Gumbs: 2-4, 1 R, 1 3B, 1 K, 2 SB
1B Casey Stevenson: 1-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K, 2 E (fielding, throwing)
LF Kelvin DeLeon: 1-4, 1 2B, 2 K — doubled to lead off the ninth, then was pinch-run for by Ali Castillo who scored the winning run
RHP Scottie Allen: 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K, 8/3 GB/FB — 44 of 68 pitches were strikes (64.7%) … probably his best start since being acquired prior to last season
RHP Wilton Rodriguez: 1 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 1/1 GB/FB — 25 of 37 pitches were strikes (67.6%)
RHP Joel DeLaCruz: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 2/0 GB/FB — 20 of 35 pitches were strikes (57.1%)
Triple-A Empire State was rained out, which means Brett Gardner’s rehab assignment will have to wait one more day to begin. They’re going to play a doubleheader tomorrow. Meanwhile, Double-A Trenton had a regular ol’ scheduled day off.
