It’s been a depressing few days, but Mike and I are making the most of it. We lament the Sox series, of course, but there are productive things to say about this team. Like, uh, they can make small but effective changes to try and patch up an offense that has been good, but that has suffered because of a few poorly producing players.

Nothing causes more frustration than allowing a ton of runs to the Red Sox. Add in some big time mistakes, and it has many of us flipping off the game before it’s over. While the Yanks did put up a five spot last night, it doesn’t nearly tell the story of futility that dominated the game. Mike and I talk about that, plus some changes — not reactionary, but necessary — that could come in the next few days.

It was a rough loss to the Sox last night, the sixth in seven games this season. That leads to some tense feelings this morning. Mike and I run down the frustrations as well as the bright spots. We also make time to talk about what happened and what remains in the draft.

The Yanks had just one pick in the draft yesterday, but it certainly caught people’s attention. Mike and I talk a bit about Dante Bichette Jr., but more about how this plays into the Yankees’ draft philosophy and why they’ve gone against the grain of traditional rankings in the past few years. We also look forward to the high-ceiling, signability players available on Day 2.

After a 6-3 road trip, including 2-1 against the Angels, the Yankees head home. Mike and I talk about the weekend, including a big portion on Jorge Posada. It seems that even when he does something good, one of his shortcomings turns it into a negative (e.g., a good at-bat followed by a GIDP, a double and getting thrown out on the bases). And, of course, we’re talking about the draft, which begins tonight at 7.
